Meet the Therapist

Mariam Rahyab, LCSW

Amena Therapy is founded and run by Mariam Rahyab, LCSW, an Afghan American clinical social worker and therapist committed to healing rooted in justice, compassion, and cultural humility. As a daughter of immigrants and a lifelong advocate for anti-oppressive care, I bring both lived experience and professional expertise to my work with clients navigating layered identities and complex emotional landscapes.

I’m currently a doctoral student at NYU, where my research focuses on trauma-informed care for refugee and immigrant communities. In my practice, I integrate Attachment-Focused Psychotherapy, Feminist Therapy, Multicultural/Culturally-Informed Therapy, and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) to offer individualized, trauma-informed support.

I work with individuals experiencing:

  • Anxiety disorders

  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

  • Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)

  • Depression

  • Relationship and identity challenges

My approach is grounded in the belief that healing must honor both the internal and external forces that shape our lives. I am deeply committed to anti-oppressive, humanizing care and stand firmly against injustice, both globally and nationally. I strive to create a space where all aspects of your identity are respected and your story is met with care, not judgment.

I accept Aetna, Cigna, UMR, United Healthcare, Oscar, Optum, and Surest. I also work with out-of-network insurance plans and offer private pay options with a sliding scale to ensure care is accessible.

You deserve support that sees all of you. I’m honored to walk with you on your healing journey.
